Saint Lucia has implemented government-funded school feeding programs in 81 infant and primary schools across 8 education districts, with an ongoing pilot program in 4 secondary schools. The program emphasizes ‘decentralized school kitchens’ that involve community participation for equitable distribution of benefits, utilization of local resources, and sustainability. We conducted fundamental research on and implemented sustainable, smallholder farmer-focused school feeding for this national project alongside the World Bank team.
